Brief Description

Manage the operation of the Signalling Centre and Signalling Staff on a shift basis, maintaining that all operating standards and procedures are adhered too. Manage the operation of train services to deliver the highest standards of safety and train performance.

About the role (External)

Key Accountabilities:

1. Direct and co-ordinate the activities of signallers within theSignalling Centre, to manage the safe & efficient operation of theSignalling equipment under their control.
2. Oversee that Network Rail train Regulation policies are adhered to,guiding or directing signalling staff on train regulation as required.
3. Advise and update Network Rail personnel, customers and contractors onrelevant operating & train service information, to facilitate a highstandard of train performance.
4. Establish that appropriate procedures are applied prior to, during &after engineering work by signallers and Network Rail personnel and contractorsto provide the safe and correct operation of trains, engineering functions andprotection arrangements of engineering works.
5. Maintain a log of incidents and unusual occurrences. Carryout investigations into operational incidents, interviewing Signallers involvedin incidents and obtaining written reports where necessary. Providewritten reports into incidents and investigatory interviews as required.
6. Administer for signallers effective team and safety briefings. LocalOperations Manager with signaller development, discipline, Managing for healthand Poor Performance
7. Arrange short notice cover for sickness, absence, etc, at designatedlocations when no clerical support is available, ensuring compliance withNetwork Rail guidelines.
8. Respond to mishaps, carry out emergency procedures and alert theappropriate agencies. Deploy designated staff in exceptional situations tooptimise safety & efficiency.
9. Instigate requests for and facilitate the post incident alcohol and drugscreening process. Oversee that safety standards are maintainedthrough checks laid down in the Network Rail Safety and Procedures Manual asdelegated by the Local Operations Manager.
10. Assess signallers using the Signallers achievement record work books,completing the appropriate sections and taking necessary actions as required ifshortfalls in Signalling standards are identified during assessment ofsignallers.
11. Operate and assist on Signalling Panels or Signal Boxes as required andwhere competent to do so.
12. Maintain the Signalling Centre security and act as Fire Warden for theSignalling Centre.

Qualifiedto the relevant Signallers assessment level
