Job Title -Library Assistant
Pay Rate- £15.84 per hour PAYE
Duration- 10-month contract
Location – Central London (Hybrid)
The post holder will be part of the Acquisition team. Their main role is to assist with the day-to-day administration and delivery of book, journal and e-resources services.
Working as part of a team, they will ensure that all information is accurately recorded and maintained in ALMA as well as within internal and external supplier databases and that print stock is processed ensuring that both print and electronic resources are accessible within the learning environment.
The collection services assistant will be able to prioritise and manage a range of tasks. Data entry and copy-editing skills are required for basic library cataloguing. A strong grasp of dealing with bibliographic data is an advantage. This role involves manual handling of books, journals and trolleys. Training will be provided.
This role is considered suitable for regular remote working. The role holder will be expected to work a minimum of 40% of their time on campus. The work pattern for the role will be agreed with the line manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Creating and transmitting book and journal orders via ALMA.
Arriving print stock (books or journals) into the library and updating the order status and item records on ALMA and other databases.
Manual handling/lifting of books and journals to progress their journey through the library (up to 13kgs).
Checking the stock on the open shelves and updating the holding/item records on ALMA.
Obtaining bibliographic records from external databases for inclusion on ALMA or creating basic records where none are available (in line with in-house basic cataloguing guidelines).
Assessment, and copyediting of bibliographic and holdings records (in line with in-house basic cataloguing guidelines).
Recording details of invoices on ALMA or other internal databases.
Written and oral communication and liaison with staff from other Library Services teams (particularly stock selection teams), external vendors and library users (in line with Library Services Customer Service Excellence standards).
Checking and responding to reports generated by ALMA in connection with the arrival of library print materials.
Analysing reports from suppliers (e.g., regarding order progress) and deciding on the most appropriate action to be taken.
Keeping statistics of activities undertaken.
Attendance at, and contribution to, team meetings.
