Why does this role exist?
BRE operates on annual revenues of £50m, secured through the provision of a complete range of advisory, testing, certification, commissioned research, digital products and training services, covering all aspects of the built environment and associated industries. Due to an increasing volume of work, we have an exciting opportunity for the right individual to join our successful and expanding team, within the fire area. The work will involve assisting in fire testing of materials to determine performance against National and International Standards. This is a junior role and training will be provided to progress and develop the successful candidate.

You will work for clients in the Fire Protection (Passive & Suppression), Testing and Certification department covering a range of “reaction to fire” properties, including ignition & flame spread and heat release, toxicity and smoke opacity.

The value this role will add:
The role involves all aspects of sample handling for RTF including receiving/safe storage/disposal after test, recording of sample details and conditioning and measuring samples in preparation for testing.
The technician will also be trained to assist during testing especially where manual handling required and complex installation of large sample.
This position will suit someone with a background in laboratory working and you will be trained to undertake all aspect of reaction to fire testing.
You will also be responsible for ensuring the relevant test equipment is maintained and is calibrated at all times for working to UKAS accredited procedures.
Our fire testing covers a variety of tasks from evaluation and classification of new construction products for manufacturers prior to their launch on the market, testing of materials present in existing structures and in support of fire investigation work. It also includes audit testing of certified products to monitor the ongoing batch to batch production quality.
In addition, you will be involved in a variety of reaction to fire tests at various scales from the single burning item (room corner), heat release test, flame spread tests, roof penetration tests and small flame ignition testing of coupons.
The role sits within of the Reaction to Fire team that is part of the Fire Protection (Suppression & Passive) group focusing on products within the construction industry.
