Title: Highways Skilled Operative with LGV
Location: Seamer Carr, North Yorkshire
Salary: £28,591 – £30,114 p. a
You will have the opportunity to be placed on the Highway Call Out and the Winter Driver rota where you will receive*:
Standby Allowance: £24 per shift
Call Out Payments: £216 per week
Winter Driving: £120 for mornings on standby (Midnight to 7:30am, Mon – Fri) + hourly rate for hours worked £216 for evenings and weekends (4pm to Midnight Mon – Fri plus 24hours on Saturdays and Sundays) + hourly rate for hours worked
Contract: Permanent,Full Time (40 hours a week)

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Skilled Operative to join us at NY Highways at our Seamer Carr Depot. You will play an important part in ensuring NY Highways continue to provide an excellent highways maintenance service to North Yorkshire. You might already have Highway Maintenance experience or currently working in an industry that you can transfer over from such as Construction or Agriculture.
This role is varied, and you will have the opportunity to be involved in maintenance projects and will undertake a wide range of routine and cyclical highway maintenance activities including; kerbing, concrete work, paving and slabbing, laying asphalt, iron work, boundary fence repair and maintenance, sign erecting and vegetation works.

Working as part of a team, you will carry out all work to the highest standard whilst following Safety, Health and Environmental policies and risk assessments. This will involve using a range of power and hand tools and operating small plant equipment. You will have good communication skills to work effectively with your NY Highways employees as well as being able to work within set timeframes but be flexible in your working approach – some out of hours working is essential.
This is a role where you will be physically active and will be working outdoors in all weathers from hot summers to cold winters. You will be provided with full Personal Protective Equipment including outdoor clothing.

· Manual Handling
· Abrasive Wheel
· Emergency First Aid

· Valid Driving Licence and Class 2 licence is an advantage
· NRSWA
· Relevant TM 12D
It is desirable for you to have a Class 2 licence as it will allow you to be part in our Winter Maintenance rota, working shifts as a Gritter Driver over the Winter Season (training provided where required). Taking part in our Winter Gritter Driver programme, will allow you to earn more money alongside your main employment with us during the winter months (usually October through to March) whilst working alongside another team.
If you have experience in some of the skills listed above without a Class 2 we will be able to help you gain your LGV licence (subject to passing probation).
This is the ideal role if you already have similar experience in a Highways maintenance and looking to join a progressive business that offers training and the opportunity progress in your career.
We are also keen to speak with people with transferrable skills from a construction background including those who have gone through workplace apprenticeships in this skill area.

Salary – We are pleased to offer a competitive salary from £28,591 per year. If you have a Class 2 licence you will also be able to earn more by working additional hours and being included on the Winter Maintenance rotas (which would require working evenings and at weekends.
