Portugal residence and work permit
Awork permit in Portugal is closely related to obtaining a work visa and a residence permit. An application for work visas to Portugal is filed before entering the country and only in the applicant’s country of residence. There are two main categories of work visas in Portugal that are issued to foreign specialists: Short-term work visa (Portugal Temporary Stay Visa) and Residence Visa with further obtaining a residence permit. Both categories allow their owners to work in the country, and both have restrictions on the time of stay. Work visas to Portugal are based on similar principles and have identical requirements: having a valid passport, travel insurance, etc.
The “Residence Permit” card in Portugal (Autorização de Residência) is required for anyone who is moving to permanent residence in Portugal, or for those who plan to stay for work or study for longer than three months.
